Every year we choose a different project to work on during our trip to a Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge, TN. This year we chose to challenge ourselves with the goal to make a project from the fabrics in this tote that came from my aunt’s house. We had no idea what we would find in this tote as far as colors or sizes of pieces. My first step was to pull out fabrics that I liked together and put them in piles.
Here are three of my piles. One has muted purples, greens, and blues, one is bright yellows, oranges, and reds, and the third is a mixture of fall toned fabrics centered around a fabric covered in pumpkins.
I thought the pile with the pumpkin fabric would make a nice table runner. I love the quilt pattern French braid and thought it would work well with the fabrics that I had. The next step was to play around with the layout of the outside stripes until I found an order that I liked.
It is starting to take shape!
The top is done. I decided to make a pieced back as well, using the remaining fabrics in my pile.
Below you can see the quilting on the table runner. The edges are all trimmed up and ready for the binding to be sewn on.
All done! I look forward to using this in the fall!
